As they hurried back to their boat, Mer-Man spoke again. "I don't know why you paid him, Skeletor," he remarked. "It would have been simpler to kill him and take the crystal."

"Garlos is useful!" retorted Skeletor as he ran. "He is a smuggler with a talent for finding rare goods. And he keeps his mouth shut, unlike some!"

Without further words being uttered, Skeletor and Mer-Man ran down steep steps which led to a dock where a small vessel was moored. Once on board, Mer-Man unfurled the sail, letting the breeze blow them seaward.
