WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE
Thank you for visiting Vaults Of Grayskull. I have enjoyed putting the website together, and I hope fans of the Masters Of The Universe find it interesting and informative. I intend to add new pages to the site, so please feel free to drop by any time and check out the website update page for the latest news.
The purpose of this page is to give you an insight into why Vaults Of Grayskull was created. There are lots of MOTU websites on the Internet, so it was fun to try to come up with something a little different from the others. Many of the websites look at the mythology of Eternia from the perspective of the animated series. Vaults Of Grayskull goes right back to the origins of the Masters, and concentrates on the 'barbarian' themes that inspired the original toys.
I collected several of the MOTU figures during the 1980s, and always wondered why the themes from the early minicomics were so different from those of the cartoons. I did enjoy watching the animated series, but I never liked the Prince Adam secret identity concept. It was alright for kids, but it was hardly original. The cartoons were also more science-fiction than fantasy, which was a big shift from the original concepts.
My interest in the Masters Of The Universe was rekindled during the early 2000s, mostly due to the Internet. I discovered the He-Man.org website, and realised that I wasn't the only one who remembered the Eternian warriors. At that time, information was just coming out about the new MOTU toyline. I had hoped that one day He-Man might make a comeback, but I doubted it would ever happen. The realisation that there were thousands of fans out there gave me an idea.
I thought the time was right for a MOTU novel. Not a story that followed the same themes as the cartoons, but went back to the MOTU origins, and celebrated the 'swords and sorcery' ideas that had influenced the development of the toys. I imagined a fantasy epic of three parts, and much of the story came to me as soon as I had decided to write it. Sure, a lot of fine-tuning was needed as I went along, but I knew more or less how the story would develop.
I called the story Grayskull, and it took me about a year to write. I always hoped that one day a film studio would develop the tale into a movie trilogy. I was confident that Grayskull was a good story, but as it was deliberately different from the cartoon themes that were being revisited in the new toyline and animations, promoting the idea was going to be difficult.
I needed to bring Grayskull to a wide audience, so I decided to create the Vaults Of Grayskull website to promote my novel. That remains the main aim of the website, although I have created other pages which I hope will be of interest to fans. And as for me - well I'm not the sort to give away lots of secrets about myself - so for now you'll only know me by my pseudonym Eyas Stormwolf. A little mystery is important!
And now a little technical stuff. This website is best viewed on a maximized screen at 96 dpi. The following programs were used to create the titles and images found on Vaults Of Grayskull: Ulead's Cool 3D and Adobe's Photoshop Elements with Adobe's Photoshop Elements One-Click Wow (layer styles CD-ROM). Scans were made with an Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner. My map of Eternia was originally created on a Canon Starwriter Pro 7000 wordprocessor, then scanned and converted to a gif file in Elements.
